November 15, 2012

It is hard to believe, but the Christina Reiman Butterfly Wing is celebrating its 10th anniversary this month. On November 3, 2002 the Butterfly Wing first opened to the public. Celebrating such a fun milestone got me wondering how many butterflies and moths have been flown in the Butterfly Wing through the years. I knew it would be a sizeable number, but even I was surprised to learn that we have received 206,032 pupae. The outside gardens may be settling down for the year, but the indoor facilities are in full swing. Visitors can see the holiday display in the Conservatory, and as always the butterflies put on a spectacular show. When you visit next, be sure to wish the butterflies a happy birthday.
