Visitors to the Christina Reiman Butterfly Wing can spot the Silver King Shoemaker (Archaeoprepona demophon) fluttering around the new plantings. Depending on the source, the genus of the group can vary and are sometimes listed as Prepona instead of Archaeoprepona. This month’s note goes well with the ID card because both are in the same genus. You can compare their similarities and differences, for instance their shared iridescent blue strip on the interior of their wings. The iridescence is similar to the blue found on the Common Blue Morpho (Morpho peleides). Whether you feel the genus should be Archaeoprepona or Prepona the Silver King Shoemaker is a beautiful butterfly, worth keeping an eye out for on your next visit to the Butterfly Wing.
