A New Beginning

Have you seen our Garden Party exhibit in the Hughes Conservatory? If you haven’t, you only have till the middle of August to see this gorgeous display. This display fits our 20th anniversary theme ‘Celebrating the Past and the Future’ because it illustrates one of the many ways people celebrate the little things in life among nature. The Garden Party has handcrafted stone ants with picnic tables covered in beautiful plants and dishes. We also have lights strung above the tables to make the scene appear as if it is from someone’s backyard. This display is so convincing that some visitors thought we had a party occurring in the Conservatory.
In mid-August the Gardens will receive our custom built garden railway from Applied Imagination. The railway will have miniature replicas of several buildings around Iowa State University’s campus and several covered bridges. The railway will be featured in two different displays from August 22 to mid-November in “Harvest Festival” and will also be featured in our mid-November to January 10 display “Treasures from the Attic”. We are very excited to receive our beautiful custom railway and hope you enjoy our new addition to the Gardens.
