A Truly Unique Butterfly

two photos of butterflies of the same species each with different markings. One has black edges with yellow and white. The other has yellow and white only.

Periodically we get a truly unique butterfly in the Christina Reiman Butterfly Wing. We recently received a Great Orange Tip (Hebomoia glaucippe) that displayed none of the black coloration. Included is a photo of this unique individual and one of a typical specimen. There are a few potential causes for the lack of coloring, and we are going to run some tests to find out the reason. I discovered this butterfly while I was walking through the Butterfly Wing. I didn’t previously know it had been released. Even I find fun, intriguing things in the Butterfly Wing, so if you have an opportunity, stop out and see what fascinating things you can find.
