Giant Wood Nymphs

This month check out the Giant Wood Nymphs (Idea leuconoe). They are a large black and white butterfly from Southeast Asia. Some of the docents at the Butterfly Wing have dubbed them the “people butterfly” because they love to land on people. That’s because Wood Nymphs are highly attracted to certain chemical volatiles that are found in an assortment of perfumes, aftershaves, lotions and body washes. So come to the Butterfly Wing and see if a Wood Nymph lands on your shoulder!
