Hello everyone! I’m Kate Helms, one of the Landscape and Garden Maintenance interns at Reiman Gardens. I will be a senior in Horticulture this upcoming semester with a focus in Landscape Design. I had attended ISU in 2017-2018, then transferred away for a year. I returned this past semester, and working at Reiman Gardens had been a big help in my transition back to Ames.  I’ve been working here as an employee since January of this year, and decided to apply for the internship here as well, which was a decision that I’m happy to have made. It is by far my favorite job that I’ve had and there here has yet to be a dull day working here this Spring/Summer.

I’ve already learned a great deal working here, and I’m excited to see what else I’ll learn as the summer goes on and as my internship project progresses. I’m planning on doing my internship project on redesigning the Prairie Vista Garden area (where the rabbit sculptures are). By the time I write another blog post, I will have more of the project completed and will be able to share the progress I’ve made on it.
