Meet the Glasshouse Display & Greenhouse Production Intern: Dalena Rogers

watering in the tropical plant Conservatory

Hey there! My name is Dalena Rogers, and I am a Glasshouse Display and Greenhouse Production intern. I will be a senior at Iowa State this fall and am double majoring in Global Resource Systems and Horticulture.

Typical duties for me so far have included cleaning up the Conservatory display, transplanting, organizing the greenhouses, transporting plants, and of course, watering. In fact, watering at the busiest and so far hottest (remember that week of 90+ temperatures with no rainfall?) time this summer took most of the workday to complete for two people. That’s over 7 hours! However, with Sycamore Falls officially being planted we are responsible for watering fewer plants every day. Watching the plants get carted away to their forever homes in the Falls is a little like dropping your oldest off at kindergarten for the first time, I’m sure! I also dedicate time every week to work on my leadership project of making trellising systems for various food crops we are growing-stay tuned for my next blog post on this!

That’s all for now! Feel free to wave at me if you see me indoors!
