Private Events Intern Leadership Project: Planning a Wedding

At Reiman Gardens each intern is assigned the task of completing a leadership project for their specific area. For my leadership project I was given the unique opportunity of planning a wedding from start to finish. Often at Reiman Gardens couples book their wedding over a year in advance and by the time of the big day, my position would be handed off to the next intern. A bride and her mother came to Renee, Reiman Gardens’ Event Manger, and I in early June looking to book a wedding with us in mid-July. The bride explained that she was originally set to be married in Jamaica at the end of May, but due to COVID-19 all fights to Jamaica had been cancelled, making their wedding no longer possible. After walking around the Gardens, the bride found a spot that looked very similar to her venue in Jamaica. Through my leadership project I was able to create their contract, process payment, handle all communication with the bride and mother, hold two in person meetings with them discussing the details of the day, create layouts for the ceremony, private dinner, and reception style open-house, and go on to lead the event staff on execution the day of.
