Entomology Assistant – For ISU Students

Job Description:

The Entomology assistant position at Reiman Gardens works in the butterfly lab helping to maintain butterfly cultures for release in the Christiana Reiman Butterfly Wing.  This position also assists in the care of over 20 other tropical insect/invertebrate species. Work in this position will involve maintenance of a variety of invertebrate colonies, processing and handling tropical chrysalis shipments, working in the Butterfly Wing providing resources for the butterfly’s which includes plant maintenance, and assists in the cleaning of the Butterfly Wing and lab spaces. This job provides the opportunity to work directly with all life stages throughout the rearing process with tropical and native butterflies as well as other invertebrate species. The employee will work in a USDA regulated lab and must be comfortable working with live insects. The Entomology staff at Reiman Gardens often conducts research projects in the Butterfly Wing, Lab and in nature. This position would have the opportunity to aid in that research.  The employee is also expected to greet and answer questions of garden visitors and will spend time in the Christina Reiman Butterfly Wing monitoring visitor activities and interpreting the exhibit. 

 

Job Skills/Requirements:

This job requires a current driver’s license, the ability to lift 50 lbs. and tolerate extreme heat.  One position possibly two positions available.  This position, while hours and days of week can be flexible, primarily considers of work hours between 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. 

 

Starting Pay:

$10.00
