Science Communication Intern (9-month position)

The Science Communication intern will work ~12 hours per week from January 9 – Sep 30, with the following required commitments:

  • Thu, Jan 26, 12:45 – 5:00 PM
  • Thu, Feb 23, 12:45 – 5:00 PM
  • Thu, Mar 23, 12:45 – 5:00 PM
  • Thu, Apr 13, 11:00 AM – 1:30 PM
  • Fri & Sat, Sep 8 & 9 OR Fri & Sat, Sep 15 & 16 (depends on ISU athletic sched.), 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM

POSITION DESCRIPTION:  The Science Communication intern will work closely with the Director of Education to help develop, implement, and coordinate educational programming related to plant-centered climate change, including on site programs, virtual program hosting, and written and mobile interpretation. This intern will also assist with scientist training, and the creation and implementation of a Plants & Climate Symposium scheduled for mid-September, 2023.  May also develop and/or support youth & family education programs.  Emphasis is on informal education and science communication to facilitate face-to-face interactions between scientists and public audiences. Compensation is $12/hour.

The Science Communication Intern must:

  • be currently enrolled at a college or university working towards an undergraduate degree
  • have a strong interest in education, science communication, and working with the public
  • be able to lift 50 pounds
  • have the ability to work occasional weekend and evening hours
  • have a valid driver’s license
