Plant-A-Row Open House, and Produce Basics with ISU Extension & Outreach

Reiman Gardens is proud to partner with ISU Extension and Outreach to offer this free education program covering best practices for garden-grown food donation. Reiman Gardens’ staff will host a 30-minute open house to answer questions about the Plant-A-Row for the Hungry program, then ISU Extension & Outreach staff will cover food garden growing basics and proper produce handling for folks interested in getting involved. Whether you are a home or community gardener, a volunteer, a food bank employee, or a community member interested in supporting fresh food collection in Story County, join us to learn more!

This program is free to attend, but please register in advance.

Class may include an extension activity tied to the Gardens, hands-on gardening activities, crafts, and a taste test of our featured fruit or vegetable of the month. Please come dressed for the weather, as we will be spending some of our time outdoors (weather permitting).

Great for youth K-3rd grade to participate accompanied by an adult. Third Saturday of every month from 10:30 AM – 11:30 AM (Dates are subject to change).
Preregistration with prepayment is required by the Thursday before each session.

You must register both youth and adult attendees.

Tai Chi techniques have many benefits for health and well-being including flexibility, stress reduction and balance. Join Felicitas Avendano, a student of Tai Chi, in a beginner level class surrounded by the serenity of the Gardens. You will learn the basic postures, movement, and breath work to get you started. You will also begin learning the first movements of the Yang style Tai Chi form.

An indoor space will be provided. Registration with pre-payment is required by Wednesday, October 6.

Yoga in the Conservatory – Wednesdays 6:00

Wednesdays beginning August 25, 6:00 – 6:45 PM for 6 weeks

Practice yoga in the tropical Hughes Conservatory after public hours with Ames Parks and Recreation instructor Kathy Vince. Classes will focus on breath and movement, resulting in a flowing and mindful practice that stretches and strengthens to bring balance to body and mind.

Participants are responsible for bringing their own mats to class. Registration with pre-payment is required by Tuesday, August 24.

Relax with Mindful Origami Coloring

Walk-ins welcome!

Monday, September 6, 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM

Looking for stress relief this Labor Day? Visit the Gardens for leisure, then join artist Sara Merritt for an adult coloring experience focused on mindfulness. Participants will receive a coloring booklet featuring simple OrigamiintheGarden2 sculpture line drawings to color with a variety of shared materials as we draw our attention into the present moment.

Preregistration with prepayment is required by Thursday, September 2.

Mindfully Balanced: Mindfulness Meditation: Sonic Movement

Sunday, August 29, 4:30 – 6:00 PM

Join neuroscientist and certified mindfulness instructor Crystal Jewell for a sonic meditation part two. Stand, move, and experience how the universal and ancient art of hand drumming led by local musicians can be a tool for entering a deeper meditative state. Social distancing guidelines will be observed.

Please dress in non-restrictive clothing and bring a yoga mat/blanket and pillow/cushion to class. Suggested pre-meditation preparation: starting 1-2 days before (longer if able), aim to eat as fresh as possible. Registration with pre-payment is required by Thursday, August 26.
