Day of Insects Reception

Friday, March 29, 6:00 to 8:30 p.m.

Again this year for individuals that are in town early the night before our annual Day of Insects (DOI), we will have an opening reception. Come be casual, enjoy dinner, get to know other insect enthusiasts - there’s more of us than you think! Anyone attending DOI can sign up to attend the reception and there will be some slots made available for individuals unable to attend DOI so they can participate as well.
Please register by March 21 for catering purposes.

Take an active role in conservation as a citizen scientist through the Iowa Butterfly Survey Network (IBSN), with this training from Reiman Gardens' entomology staff. Learn survey techniques specifically developed for butterflies so you can help monitor butterfly populations, and provide valuable data to identify potential threats, show effectiveness of habitat restoration efforts, and give an annual snapshot of the health of all butterfly populations in Iowa.

Celebrate the annual Day of Insects at Reiman Gardens. Enjoy a day filled with presentations from professionals, academics, advocates, and enthusiasts. From beginners to seasoned veterans, Day of Insects has something for anyone interested in or involved with insects.

On the day of the event, doors will open at 8:00 a.m. with presentations starting at 9:00 a.m. and ending at 4:20 p.m. Lunch is from 12:20-1:20 p.m. A menu is located within the registration and snacks will be available during breaks.  Optional workshops and a reception will also be held.

Preregistration and prepayment are required - please register by March 24 for catering purposes.

Reiman Gardens would like to invite you to join us for a buffet style breakfast as a token of appreciation for all you do! Volunteers are truly the heart of the organization and we couldn’t do it without each and every one of you. There is no specific meal time, so feel free to stop by anytime between 8:00 and 10:00 to grab a bite to eat and mingle with other volunteers and Reiman Gardens' staff.

Breakfast with the Bunny

Saturday, April 20 with two seating options at 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m.

It’s spring! It’s spring! Come to Reiman Gardens to enjoy a hearty breakfast, say hello to the Easter Bunny and hunt for eggs.  Stop in and visit the Hughes Conservatory, and take a walk through the Butterfly Wing when it opens at 9:00 a.m. See what’s popping up outside as we move into a new growing season, and head to Reiman Gardens’ Gift Shop for help in filling up Easter baskets.

NOTE: Attendance at Breakfast with the Bunny is required to join the egg hunt. Registration and payment is required by Friday April 12.

Members Only Party for Nature of the Game Exhibit

April 26, 6:30 - 8:30 p.m.

Join us for the unveiling of Nature of the Game, our brand new interactive exhibit of larger-than-life outdoor games! Created by Reiman Gardens in collaboration with ISU Design faculty and students, this series puts an ecological and artistic spin on familiar favorites. From oversized tile puzzles to gorgeous hidden picture sculptures to giant food web chess and more, have fun playing games that demonstrate the balance, beauty, and connectedness of nature. Learn more.

Enjoy a dessert and coffee, as well as a presentation by Iowa State’s Reinaldo Correa about the creation of the exhibit.

Extended Hours to See the Tulips

Open until 8:00 p.m. on the following nights April 27, May 2, May 3, and May 4

Plan a visit to see our 55,000+ stunning tulips as well as thousands of other spring blooms. The Gardens will offer extended weekend hours for the public to see the tulips at their prime. The Gift Shop will also stay open until 8:00, but the Butterfly Wing still closes at 4:30.

No preregistration required. Free for members and ISU students. Price of admission for the general public.

Meet up to a dozen local scientists who will share their research and knowledge with you through fun hands-on activities and conversation. This event features professionals who are Reiman Gardens’ 2019 Science Communication Fellows.
