Three different types of natural Iowa landscapes, lowland, mesic and upland, are organized in this garden. Featured are both dry and wetlands and shady or sunny growing plant beds. A loop path connects these landscapes featuring different plant palettes adapted to these varying garden environments. A beautiful, wooden boardwalk invites visitors to enter over a wetland supporting enormous American Sycamore (Platanus occidentalis) trees into a seating area near a limestone, water feature. This locale is a bog garden that flows through the mesic area. The pathway brings visitors high into a series of rock outcrops which is also the southernmost point of the Gardens.
