Floral Design SERIES 2019

Third Tuesdays, 6:30 – 7:30 p.m.

Learn the basics of floral design from State Fair Master Flower Show judge and floral designer Sandy Gossman while creating beautiful arrangements to take home. Each month features a different style of arrangement, from vase designs to centerpieces, to contemporary designs using structural oasis. Learn the tips and skills used by professionals and create own one-of-a-kind floral designs.

Better Flower Photography

4-week program on Mondays beginning April 1, 6:00 – 8:30 p.m.

When you capture an image of a flower, all too often the results can be disappointing. It’s easy to end up with a lackluster snapshot with little artistic merit. How can you avoid that from happening? Join award-winning fine art nature photographer Mark Stoltenberg as he finally teaches the long requested class that focuses on specifically taking better flower images. By putting exposure, light, composition, depth of field and perspective together, this class aims to improve your flower photos and increase your chances of capturing the occasional masterpiece.
You will need to bring the following to each class: your DSLR camera, and sturdy tripod. Beginner photography or instructor permission is the prerequisite for this class. Registration with prepayment is required by Sunday, March 31.

Photography Master Study 6 (ALL NEW)

Back by popular demand! One of the best ways to learn any art form is by exploring a master artist’s methods. Under the expert guidance of professional photographer Mark Stoltenberg, you will study the creative process of eight new photographers who have truly mastered the trade. Through image analysis, class discussion and class homework, this course will offer new insight into how to approach your own images, boost your confidence, expand your critical eye, and improve your photography.

Black & White Digital Photography

4-week course beginning Wednesday, April 3, 6:00 – 8:30 p.m.

One of the best ways to increase your ability to find great photography subjects is to learn to shoot in black & white. Join Mark Stoltenberg as you’ll learn the key elements of a successful black and white image. Mark will walk you through the steps to take, from planning to pre-visualization to capture and then to post-processing. Learn the various processes and conversion options to move your color image to black and white using both Lightroom and several 3rd party plug-in options.

Breakfast with the Bunny

Saturday, April 20 with two seating options at 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m.

It’s spring! It’s spring! Come to Reiman Gardens to enjoy a hearty breakfast, say hello to the Easter Bunny and hunt for eggs.  Stop in and visit the Hughes Conservatory, and take a walk through the Butterfly Wing when it opens at 9:00 a.m. See what’s popping up outside as we move into a new growing season, and head to Reiman Gardens’ Gift Shop for help in filling up Easter baskets.

NOTE: Attendance at Breakfast with the Bunny is required to join the egg hunt. Registration and payment is required by Friday April 12.

Members Only Party for Nature of the Game Exhibit

April 26, 6:30 - 8:30 p.m.

Join us for the unveiling of Nature of the Game, our brand new interactive exhibit of larger-than-life outdoor games! Created by Reiman Gardens in collaboration with ISU Design faculty and students, this series puts an ecological and artistic spin on familiar favorites. From oversized tile puzzles to gorgeous hidden picture sculptures to giant food web chess and more, have fun playing games that demonstrate the balance, beauty, and connectedness of nature. Learn more.

Enjoy a dessert and coffee, as well as a presentation by Iowa State’s Reinaldo Correa about the creation of the exhibit.

Extended Hours to See the Tulips

Open until 8:00 p.m. on the following nights April 27, May 2, May 3, and May 4

Plan a visit to see our 55,000+ stunning tulips as well as thousands of other spring blooms. The Gardens will offer extended weekend hours for the public to see the tulips at their prime. The Gift Shop will also stay open until 8:00, but the Butterfly Wing still closes at 4:30.

No preregistration required. Free for members and ISU students. Price of admission for the general public.
